The PlayStation 5 is set to launch on November 12, but Sony gave us early access to the next-generation console to try it for ourselves. A full review of the PS5 will be coming in the next few days, but first, we wanted to give our readers a chance to see how the PlayStation 5 looks in an everyday environment.
Much has been said about the PlayStation 5's new features, which include a solid-state drive, 8K graphics with ray tracing, 3D audio, enhanced quality for older games; but with no live events this year, few people have been able to see how big the PS5 is in person, or try the PS5's DualSense controller.
Sony sent us the $500 standard version of the PlayStation 5; the $400 all-digital edition PS5 is roughly the same size but doesn't have a disc drive. Pre-orders for both consoles are available now, though stock has been limited as the PS5's release date draws closer.
Below, we've taken a few basic photos to give you an idea of how the PlayStation 5 will fit in your living room or on your desk. We'll be sharing separate impressions on the DualSense controller, which we've used to play "Astro's Playroom."
Here's a closer look at Sony's upcoming PlayStation 5:
Reaching nearly 16-inches tall on its vertical stand, the PlayStation 5 is a beast of a console. It's roughly half the height of my 50-inch TV when standing.

The PS5 does manage to fit into my TV stand, though there's not much room to spare.

For comparison, here's how the PlayStation 4 (left), and Xbox One X (right) fit alongside the PS5 (center).

The PlayStation 5's large footprint makes it feel a bit big for desk setups and bookshelves, but I know I'll be keeping it parked by my work station.

A closer side by side look of the PS4 and PS5.

The PlayStation 5 has a much larger footprint than the PS4, and sits on a stand in horizontal mode too.

The PlayStation 5 will officially launch on November 12. Check back for our full review and breakdowns of new PS5 games like "Spider-Man: Miles Morales" and the "Demon Souls" remake.
